Here’s the latest schedule of CAWA events/trips for 2013!
The trips tend to coincide with public holidays but the gym crashes are usually every month. For CAWA members, a gym crash involves cheaper entry to the gym, climbing, pizza (extra $5). They provide an excellent opportunity to meet people, chew the fat, lie about your climbing feats and organise to hook up on the weekends. The gym crash schedule will be adhered to as much as possible, but in the unlikely event that a date needs to change, you will be given plenty of notice.

Banff Mountain Film Festival - CAWA Group Booking: 29/05/2013 06:30 PM -
Come along to our annual get together for the Banff Mountain Film Festival.
CAWA has a number of discounted tickets for this event ($28 CAWA Group vs $35 standard) still available. Please send an email to cawa@climberswa.asn.au to book seats, and bring a group along to heckle and enjoy.
The venue is the Heath Ledger Theatre, at The State Theatre of WA, cnr Roe and William Sts, Northbridge.
Starts at 7pm on Wed 29th May 2013. Of course the regular get together at the bar 30mins beforehand is legendary....

The next CAWA Gym Crash will be held at City Summit Indoor Climbing Center. It will start around 6:30pm on Wednesday 20th February.
The special price for CAWA members at the Gym Crash night at City Summit is $10 per person; talk about great value! There is a small additional cost for pizza - $5ea only.
Look for Anthony Brandis who is the CAWA focal point for the Gym Crash if you are new and need some introductions or you need to partner up with someone. Find me and let me have the $5 for Pizza's before I have to order, around 6:45pm.

It's a quiet get together of climbers to enjoy a balmy evening under the stars heckling and oooohhhh..'ing the antics of some classic climbers and their routes.

As you are all well aware the silly season is fast approaching.
CAWA will be holding our annual end of year celebration as usual. CAWA members and their partners are welcome. Non members and potential members are encouraged to come along and find out what CAWA is all about.
Theme: Red and Green or your favourite Xmas outfit (remember there will be children attending)
When: Sunday 9th December, 3.30pm-7pm (BBQ around 5pm)
Where: Point Walter Reserve in Bicton (See map on the online guide)

Directions: Come down Honour Rd on the left side of Pt Walter Reserve, going straight through the roundabout at Carroll Drive and continuing on past the tennis courts. On your right you will see a kid's playground some parking and BBQ's that are quite close to the road. We will be in that general area, fairly close to the road. On your left, if you follow the path down to the water, you will find a long expanse of limestone wall conveniently placed for your bouldering pleasure.
What to bring: Deck chairs or picnic blankets, Sun screen, hats, mozzie repellent, towel, old climbing shoes, chalk bag, swimmers, jumper (if it comes in cool) and your favourite outdoor game.
CAWA will provide: BBQ meats, sauce, buns, salads. Soft drink and water, plastic plates ,cups and cutlery, BBQ Masterchef’s required to help handle the tongs !!!
(Please inform us of any dietary requirements when you RSVP)
Activities: Bouldering, Eating and your favourite outdoor game
Cost: Non members $10, Kids under 10yrs are free. Payment can be done on the day, please bring exact change. CAWA T-shirts $15 (Sizes and colours are limited) and Guide books $29 (down from $39 in the retail shops) will be available for purchase

Summer Break Willy's Trip: 30/11/2012 04:00 PM - 02/12/2012 06:00 PM
We’re holding a “Summer Break” climbing trip to Willyabrup, Friday 30th Nov to Sun 2 Dec 2012.
We’ll be staying at the Gracetown Caravan Park. CAWA has reserved a group block of 18 tent sites (power available) at a cost of $14 per person per night. Most of you know about the campsite and its proximity to Willyabrup and other climbing areas.
If you are interested in coming, please let us know asap by email at cawa@climberswa.asn.au. Gracetown Caravan Park is on the corner of Caves Road and Cowaramup Road that leads to Gracetown.
Some of us will travel down on Friday 30th Nov afternoon/evening, but please ensure you arrive no later than 9pm, as requested by the campsite management. That gives us the ability to get after an early start on the rock on Saturday morning.

Please note that CAWA trips are a benefit for members. Non-members who are interested in coming can join online. All participants need to be ‘independent participants’. This means you are responsible for your own safety. Due to legal and liability issues, CAWA does not provide training. If you are an inexperienced climber, then have a chat to some of the more experienced people you know and see if they are planning to attend.

Earlier this year we tied up a lot of people in "knots", "nots" and "gnotz"..... This long awaited sequel, starring "The KNOTZ MAN" will be released again at Rosie's as a refresher and for some, "knew Knotz" to be presented. There is an audience participation involvement, so be warned. In addition there will be a "Knots Quiz" again. Come along, join in, have fun and maybe take home a new skill.................... Rescue Practise Day
A key part of climbing, particularly in remote locations or when multi-pitching, but also on single pitch sports climbs, is some basic knowledge of rescue techniques. This can be self-rescue, like how to place and use a prussic, how to escape a belay and how to tie and use a munter hitch for rappelling (if you happen to drop your belay device for example).
I use these skills little these days, so I’m keen to practise my rescue skills, dust off the cobwebs of the mind and refresh myself of what to do and how to do it. That way in the event that I need them, I can do what I need to efficiently and with minimal fuss, so I can get on with doing more climbing!
This is an Invitation to anyone else who would like to join myself and Jonas Hollingworth at Mountain Quarry on Sunday 18th November from 2pm onwards to practise:
- Rappelling with a leg prussic
- Alternate methods of rappelling: munter hitch, double wrap, extra friction etc.
- Tying off abseil devices
- Turning your seat harness into a full body harness
- Prussicing single and double on an overhanging face
- Using natural anchors and principles of anchor points (maybe revision for some)
- Basic pulley systems with auto block
- Assisted hoist (lead climber hoisting the follower up if s/he can’t climb on)

The camping accomodation for the CAWA Willy's Lab Day long weekend climbing trip set for Friday 2nd March to Monday 5th March 2012, has been fully booked up.
We have 15 CAWA members registered to attend, and they have a campsite allocated.

CAWA’s famous Knots Knight…Come down and learn how to tie those knots which any climber should know.
From the simple clove hitch to the more advanced prusik, and a lot in between! We will be demonstrating how to tie these knots and then taking you through the whole process.
Additionally we will be discussing in what general situations you could end up using these knots. From tying into the end of a rope, to which knots to use to set up anchors and belay anchors.
