I’m planning on a trip to Borneo later in the year and am finding it difficult to get any good information on the climbing. Has anyone been there to recommend what teh routes are like. I hear its mostly sports climbs but have had not much joy in finding any ‘how to get there’ or route description information.

A few routes were reported in Rock magazine no. 41 (Jan-Mar 2000), mostly of the desperate kind. If you’re near Mount Kinabalu, there’s some good climbing around the summit on good granite at 3500-4100m altitude – though often cold and wet. I did a few climbs but don’t have route descriptions. Best search the net for Kinabalu and rock climb.

    Hi Rochelle,

Got no idea what’s there apart from reading the Lonely Planet but I’d really like to know if you find anything.

    Cheers,
