I was just wondering whether its possible to hire/buy a cheap petrol generator to run a fairly robust household drill to bolt outdoors?
any thoughts?
petrolheadMemberIt is possible, see Cockburn Hire or similar. But the thing is a pig to carry so beware. But it had been carried to Mt Randall in the 80s.
neilMemberget back to work mark.
stop wasting company resources.
hand drillerMemberwhy not try to hire a petrol or battery drill, but if you are a real hard man you could use a pecker…head
wa hardmanMemberhaha i’m not really a hardman in fact i’m only 17. You can buy a GMC generator for 100 buks, they only weigh about 25kg with fuel. must be cheaper than a rechargable drill and more powerful – i dunno, just seems to make sense if u dont mind lugging it and dont have the $$
petrolheadMemberMan, you cannot fit a diesel generator into a backpack, as too big and fuel will spill if you put it in sideaways. So your idea is OK for quarries but hand carrying it somewhere + all other climbing bolting gear….the people who have done have done it only once. Anyway, the thing you want to make the holes with is called a rotary hammer, and is definitely not a drill, and is much more expensive (even electricity powered.)
wa hardmanMemberbeen speaking to more people and yeh it seems its the type of drill which is important, thankyou for your replies.
