Hey, just wondering if there’s any climbing down at Esperance? I’ve read whispers of climbing on Mount Le Grand and Frenchman Peak. Anyone know?

    Cheers

Yes there are a few lines in the esperance region. In the town itself the seaward side of the large ‘block’ at west beach has three easily seen cracks though only around 8-10m in height.

With regard to frenchman’s peak there are some good crack/face routes that are in a bay on the face west of the obvious cave. The local ranger has left notes on cars regarding climbing there though due to his concerns for your safety. The cave itself has an extremely long, chosey, mossy, crackline through the roof. I do not know of anyone completing that.

Lucky Bay and surrounds have heaps of small bouldering problems and all of these boulders are visable from the road as you drive in.

If you do like good climbing and can drive for about 150km from esperance the best spot nearby is definately Peak Charles. Slabs, cracks, chimneys and overhanging blocks and waves. That place has it all. Mt Ridley, turnoff on right, when departing from esperence to peak charles also has some routes but these are alot like darlington boulders. Better climbing at peak charles.

Have good fun, I did the five years I was working in the goldfields!
