Oh, it came to my attention recently (rather ‘firsthand’ and immediately actually) that Urban Ethics is now missing a bolt (compared to when i did it last year); perhaps the 4th one?
There are holes where there used to be a bolt or two previosuly…
I lead past this ‘gap’ OK as that section is below the grade of the climb, however, this is a big fall (~6m?) for the unlucky and will hence put undue and excessive force on the lower bolt (hope thats a good one)… I know nothing of bolting ethics here in WA, and dont wish to delve on that (unless the original bolter reads this and thinks it may be nice to replace it perhaps?) so just warning you punters…. enjoy the run-out, and be advised 🙂
MikeMemberthat route has a chequered history where bolts have been sunk in, chopped, replaced and argued over for decades.
the bolt holes you see are a result of this fracas. rest assured the runout was ‘designed’ by the first ascentionist.
MikeMemberHi Mike,
Thank you for the clarification.
It was a long summer so perhaps I was imagining being safe on that ghost bolt last year when in fact was probably not! 🙂
