BARRINGTON QUARRY – Dirty Deeds wall

    Grunt-ometer Says Twenty Three 19m 21
Testing all the way to the anchor. Start 4m left of ‘Dynamite’ and go straight up following the ring bolts left of the blast line. 5RB to DBB. Jonas Hollingworth and Trent Potts – May 14

    STATHAMS QUARRY

    Shorter Circuit 24m 20**
A harder alternate start to ‘Short Circuit’ starting 4m further right. Go up the weakness in the detached mega flake. Move left, then up the thin flakey crack until it intersects with the arete to clip the 5th bolt of ‘Short Circuit’. 9RB. Jonas Hollingworth and Nadia Mertens – Dec 14

I thought ‘Shorter Circuit’ may be a 21. Feedback on grades/stars welcome.

    MOUNTAIN QUARRY trad route?

Also, does anyone know anything about a trad route just right of Penthouse at Mountain Quarry? There’s also another recent post on the forum about this potential new route by Richard which I only just noticed. The line is a thin, barely noticeable crack branching right from the start of Penthouse and parallels it to the top and about a grade 14. I climbed it about a year ago, there was a few run-outs on small gear, however a few months ago I gave it a good clean which added extra placements and got rid of a heap of loose rock. My research failed to find any reference to the route. I spoke to some oldies and the first ascensionist of ‘Penthouse’ who didn’t know anything either.

    Hi Jonas
I couldn’t find anything about that climb right of Penthouse either, and there were no responses re its history when I posted query after climbing it with Richard a few months ago. I even named it to provoke a response but…. nothing. I thought it was about a 14 too, for the run outs on small gear. No doubt your cleaning has made it much better 🙂
I’m looking forward to your Short Circuit variation once I return from Land of the Cripple.

    Hi Ang,

Yeh I thought it might have been done back in the old days but maybe this one ‘slipped through the cracks’! Pretty cruisey but not bad for a bit of trad practice. I might put a lower off anchor in at some stage which would make the route a bit more user friendly instead of dodgy trees at the top. What’ve you done to yourself?

Aw nothing major, just shoulder surgery lol! Icing on the cake after an 18 month fight with tennis elbow in both arms. There was about a 5 week gap between finally seeing off the elbow crappiness and having surgery, hence the hardcore attack (not!) on a quarry unknown 14. Back to Gibraltar Rock for me. Any takers for a January trip??

I did Shorter Circuit today. 20 is spot on! That loose bit at the top, near the anchors, is a little un-nerving :/

    Thanks Jonas
