I am travelling around australia an i would like to know what the w.a. climbing community think is the best climbing crag in w.a.i only have my sport rack with me and i got a 60 m rope. I am travelling with my girlfriend and we are looking for something in the 16-24 grade, thanks
Sport climbing wise:
Kalbarri-great routes, long drive
Bobs hollow-Fantastic! on a WA scale
Mt Trio- Great routes in an awesome setting
Peak head- south face!! ( you do need some natural pro, but mostly mixed bolts/gear Awesome!
As George wrote, Kalbarri and Bobs. Are there any fully bolted at Peak Head? Maybe.
A lot of the stuff in WA is trad or mixed – bolts + cams and nuts.
Around Perth, there are some nice bolted climbs in the quarries – Mountain Quarry, Stathams, and Boya East Bay. Urban Ethics, Mortal Wombat, Sylvia, Ace etc etc at MQ, Real Life Ambition, Check Mate, Kid Rock, Left Edge Winklin Smidger (or whatever it’s called), Stolen Glory, Morning Glory etc at Stathams. Hells, Bells, Madamoiselles, Enduring Freedom and 5 or 6 more at Boya.
For access to Mountain and Stathams, phone the Perth Hills Nation park Centre on 9295 2244 to get the gate code. For Boya, park and walk 500 metres.

Some of the pitches on the south face are fully bolted!!, guide is nearly ready:).
Thanks for the info!! is there a good guide book that include most of those spot…. or one for bob,s hollow. i would also like to know what it means when it says climb at your own risk (Warning : The Bob’s Hollow crag is situated in the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Nation Park and is managed by WA’s Conservation and Land Management (CALM) body. The CALM management plan for the park states that climbing is not permitted on any limestone cliffs within the national park. Therefore, you climb at Bob’s Hollow at your own risk. ) cheers
West Australian Rock (2002, Shane Richardson) covers the best spots in the whole state including Bob’s Hollow and Kalbarri. Most of the city gear stores carry it for about $50.
Etienne – In this country, land administrators mostly restrict climbing access for 2 reasons (1) some protected species of plant/bird etc there (2) they are worried that you could sue them if there is an accident. Number 2 applies to Bob’s Hollow, so “climb at your own risk”. The climbing restriction is not enforced at BH so you will not have any issues with park rangers. But do not camp there, this is prohibited.
