    Hi,
Is anyone aware of any known or suspected cases of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of stainless steel bolts on rock climbs in WA? This type of failure is not the normal gradual visible corrosion/rotting away of a bolt but is generally a sudden failure of what looks to be a bolt in pretty good condition. If anyone has any information I’d appreciate hearing about it.
    Regards,
    Paul

No instances. Pretty unlikely to get pure chloride induced SCC. As opposed to whatever has happened in Thailand.

Chloride SCC does not happen below 60C. That is rock temperature not air temp. Crevice corrosion would be more inportant here. No failures i know of. Use 316 if poss.
