I spoke with Steve from climbinganchors.com.au and he said he is talking to the US supplier about stocking Titanium (Ti) ringbolts. The expected cost will be about $10 ea, with the current 304SS bolts costing $7. 316SS has the same problem by the way.

Why Ti? There have been problems in tropical locations with newish bolts snapping off due to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and crevice corrosion. Thailand is famous for it but also Dominican Rep, Cayman Brac, others.

While the SW of WA is not exactly tropical, it is worth thinking about (Bobs’ does get hot and steamy!!). Ti is corrosion proof…ie does not rust at all. Up until now there has been no choice in materials but do keep an eye out on Steve’s site and if you want your project bolts to last essentially forever in saline environments, consider Ti.
