Can those that have been involved and have visited please reframe from giving away any info, as it has been made clear that DEC are aware of the climbing and there may be concerns with the location of the access track. cheers
KimMemberHi there,
I’ve just put a post up on a different thread but I’ve just moved to Perth from Scotland for a year and am looking for climbing partners. I’m 25 and usually climb around 6B inside (don’t know what the equivalent here is…!) and VS outside.
My number’s 0477032035 if you’re interested,
Cheers,
Kim
RichardMemberSounds like excellent work. Returning climbs to condition of first ascent. Thanks.
AndyGMemberThere are 4wd and walking tracks to out of the way fishing spots all over the South West. I’m sure DEC “may be concerned” about many of them.
Tim SMemberWhat sort of epoxy ?
ConcernedMemberI think it is more about taking responsability for something that has been developed by climbers, for climbers and that is in our area of control. in this case a slight track adujstment could be the difference between access and no access, if handled correctly.
If you had put the time and effort into something of this nature, then you would understand.
friend of numbatMemberhah.
pretty unlikely that crag is going to surface on the cawa website anytime soon.
FlintMemberHey guys I may be coming down to Albany this weekend and would be damn keen to get out to WCH if possible or maybe Peak Head. Could be keen for the stirlings too on Sat if anyone wants to go do a long multipitch? If so, shoot me a msg. 0448646559
cheers

Tyrone C.Memberahaha good point! i think they said something like $14, check the .ppt link above.
GeorgeMemberWill the prices be as extortionate as the rockface??, especially given the location!.
RossMemberIt’s the best way to get a good new crag started around Perth.
Build one.
Damien HallMemberI like excited!
DenaMemberThe AAC insurance is intended primarily to cover rescue but I have taken it out again this year for the other benefits as well. Rescue is free in some countries but not others and depending on which but of the mountain you fall down on, it could be the one that charges lots.
Insure4less has good cover (pretty much the only one we can easily access here) and is reasonably priced considering what they cover. They are also still developing their cover and are open to feedback about climbers’ needs. They increased the rescue component last year when I told them that the cover they offered wouldn’t even come close to being adequate. However, you do need to take out their ‘normal’ premium cover and then apply for the climbing cover, which is available at two levels, depending on what you are doing, altitudes etc. There is good medical expenses cover and other things you might look for in travel insurance.
Damien HallMemberHi Guys,
I am the co-owner of City Summit with Nigel Ray; the centre is located in Malaga with 10 metre high walls. Although we would have loved to see higher walls, warehouses in Perth are extremely rare to non-existent for anything higher than 10 meters. We spent a year and half looking for the right property and are very confident we have done just that.
We have extended the length of climbs utilizing every available inch of the 711m2 warehouse and have created a lot of very long climbs as a result without continually using ceiling climbs.
The warehouse will contain 3 large designated lead areas, 40 top roping stations and a very large bouldering area. We anticipate an opening day in October and will hold a closed Grand Opening session to CAWA members only.
The following link is a copy of the PowerPoint presentation we gave at the CAWA social night on Wednesday the 10th of August. The climbing walls have been custom designed using an advanced 3d modelling program and we have provided some still shot examples of the climbing walls as well as a birds eye view of the centre. The use of 3d modelling allowed for a lot of free from design for the climbing walls creating a very unique, custom built climbing centre. (enter the following link into your web browser)
The centre will also provide a café, function area and pro shop. We are currently applying for a liquor licence for the café but can’t make any promises at this stage, so keep in touch as to how we progress on this one. The café sits on an existing mezzanine, at about 5 metres and overlooks the entire centre, it’s a great place to chill out with friends after a hard climbing session.
The City Summit website should be up and running in a couple of weeks; http://www.citysummit.com.au and a twitter account will be set up in the next week or two to show the progress of the climbing walls.
Feel free to contact either Nigel or myself with any feedback, questions or even suggestion:
Regards,
Damien Hall
StuartMemberCheers Dena.
I have been looking at the Insure for less Web site and deciding which way to go. I’m not planning any epic alpine just a bit of sport this time in France, Spain and Italy with a bit of Via feratta.
Tyrone C.MemberCool beans. Sounds interesting, high walls would have been awesome! Better be a big bouldering area 😛
Cheers for the update!
Tyrone C.MemberDamien, I am excited 🙂
DenaMemberCity Summit is in Malaga. The walls are 10 m high. I queried them on this and it would seem that in Perth it’s a standard height for a lot of warehouse spaces and without custom building at great expense, it wasn’t going to happen. Unfortunate, as I was hoping to see some high walls like they have over east.
A great deal of planning has gone into this gym and maximum utilisation of space: some 700sqm. There will plenty of top rope stations, some lead areas that are separate to the top rope areas and of course bouldering. The walls will be plywood-concrete has a number of issues and is extremely expensive. There may be some texturing on some of the walls.
There will also be a cafe that will provide a range of healthy foods.
Thw owners have talked about opening in Oct but I’m not sure construction will be complete by then.
Mike (R)Memberthere weren’t any guides. There was a map and there were directions to some areas and links to guides which can all still be found elsewhere. I saved the videos though.
Tyrone C.MemberDitto to the other comments, if you dont mind emailing it again.
Cheers brother!
Joe MMemberHah awesome, I be going there this Summer :D, thanks
Tyrone C.MemberNo, but i’d like too.. Hopefully it’s a bouldering gym.. That would be very nice..
RhysMemberhey guys! if ya keen, then give me a call! i have a few ideas up my sleeve! 0487343826
jasonMemberwell, im in kalbarri. checked out fairways with the very limited info i have. the walk in is 2.5km! quite a hike when you throw in the climb in and out of the gorge too. could not cross the river as it was too high but i struggle to make head or tails of it anyway. found a pebble to play on for a while while the family swam in the pool.
