Mount Randall has a magical atmosphere and seems untouched by civilisation. However it is also hard to find, hard to reach and hard to climb at. Few would argue that climbing here is fun or pleasant. In fact work “gnarly” is probably a good way to capture the general feeling of the place. While not suitable for beginners due to the lack of easy climbs, the aficionado can spend many days here, ripping rubber from shoes and skin from fingertips. The friction climbs can be very good – you will not find larger crystals anywhere in Perth, except for Toodyay Boulders. In case you missed the earlier point, here it is again: the rock is very abrasive, hands should be taped for all routes involving cracks. Long pants and kneepads are also advised.
