This trip is for experienced single pitch outdoor leaders who would like to learn how to lead sport multi-pitch safely.
Day 1 will involve a workshop on basic multi-pitch skills at Monkey Rock. Then, on day 2, you’ll put those skills into practice with more experienced climbers at Angwin Peak in the Porongurups. This trip will cost $80 per participant to cover the cost of Stu Matheson, a member who is a professional climbing instructor.

- Important gear to carry in small pack whilst on the route, emergency options
- Options for belaying from the top (pros, cons)
- Options of belay setups (pros, cons)
- Stance management considerations
- Retrievable abseils, self-protected
- Lowering your partner (options depending on belay set up)
Prerequisite
- must have a gym lead pass
- must be comfortable climbing grade 16+ on lead outdoors and with cleaning single-pitch routes
- have own harness, shoes, helmet, belay device and personal safety (PAS, slings, etc…)
The workshop will run Saturday 9 am – 5 pm. Sunday will be left optional to have some fun and put the new skills into practice.
