Intro to Sport Multi-pitch climbing with ACIA and internationally qualified climbing instructor Stu Matheson

September 14 @ 9:00 AM September 15 @ 3:00 PM

This workshop is tailored for experienced single-pitch outdoor lead climbers who want to safely explore the world of sport multi-pitch climbing.

Day 1 involves a comprehensive workshop from 9 AM to 5 PM, focusing on fundamental multi-pitch techniques and rope skills at Monkey Rock. This particular crag, with its shorter routes and “mini multi-pitch” options, provides an ideal setting for learning within a controlled environment. Participants will hone their ability to adapt new skills to their existing single-pitch repertoire. Topics covered during this workshop include:

Monkey Rock
  • Important gear to carry in small pack whilst on route, emergency options
  • Options for belaying from the top (pros, cons)
  • Options of belay set ups (pros, cons)
  • Stance management considerations
  • Retrievable abseils, self protected
  • Lowering your partner (options depending on belay set up)

On day 2, you will have the opportunity to put these newly acquired skills into action alongside more experienced climbers at either Angwin Peak or Gibraltar Rock in the Porongurups.
