Hi JC,
No climbing is allowed at Yardi Creek Gorge due to a small localised population of endangered black footed Wallaby and a large number of nesting birds. I’d suggest you contact the ranger at the CALM office in Exmouth before you do more climbing in the Cape Range National Park, as they will direct you to any other places you can’t climb if there are any. There are quite a few routes that have been established at Pilgonamen Gorge, but to date only the boulders at Shot Hole Canyon have been top roped or bouldered. The routes are published in the Northern Rock guide by Shane Richardson, and were accurate and allowed at the time of publication in 1996.
Please send an update from the Exmouth Ranger with any updates on the climbing areas to cawa@climberswa.asn.au as we’d like to keep updated with any additional information they have, and any other areas s/he’s seen that look good for climbing!
