      Hey.

Has anyone got any thoughts on Beal or Roca ropes ?? I’ve been looking to buy a 60m rope and came across these brands from chockstone, They seem reasonably priced, weighted (70g/m) and the beal edlinger 10.5 has a 14 fall rating. I’d like to have all blue water ropes but not sure if the price justifies it.. Your thoughts ???

Have a 10.5 Beal (Top Gun i think). LOVE it. Low impact force, pretty coilours(essential). Keeps my fat self from hitting the deck!

UNfortunately I would have to disagree there,

I have found Beal to be a nice rope, but lasts for all of about 3months before the ends need to be cut. I think the durability of the Beal range is substandard compared to other ropes, granted other brands are similar, but not as bad as Beal.

Personally, I would go for Stirling Edelrid or Infiniti. Roca are also really good but my preference in terms of durability etcetc are the above 3 .

              Oh No Pat,

Don’t tell me that! My rope has been mint, survived Toodjay and all the other crags in WA. Its well over 3 months old……is it now just going to crap itself, please no! I am just hoping that because I am a crap climber doing lower grades that the rope will survive. Maybe they don’t like the 30 grades you put them through?

Must admit my old edelrid was great too.

I don’t care about brands much and look more at $$, and the grams per meter who cares either, a difference of 5 g/m makes 300g diff on a 60m rope which weighs 4kg anyway. Stiff-handling, heavier, dry-treated ropes (like Edelrid Dry), last longest, if that’s yer criterion.

By the way I don’t know how Bluewater get away with charging the high prices in Aust, in the US BW is the cheapest rope you can buy. I suppose it’s like European cars, put a big price on it and people think they are getting something better…..

Actually, I have Edeldrid too, I always just mix up the two names for some reason (dunno why,it’s not like Beal sounds similar or anything!).

Thanks for the input Folks, I think I’m going to go with the ROCA Free for $285 for 60m 14UIAA rating 70g etc.. sounds like value for money. I s’pose I’ll end up with more than 1 rope as I venture outdoors more so I’ll have more of an idea.

Have you guys looked at Chockstone online store ??
