yes there’s a lot of fresh white graffiti in MC. I don’t understand the cricket stumps. Is there a way to remove the paint without making a big smuge?

I noticed a weekend ago that Stathams is also now permanently open. No Lock and a small modification to the pole. This may not make much of a difference. The barrier doesn’t keep out motorcyclists.

Quaint how we’re concerned with the natural beauty of the quarries after so many years of climbing amongst the broken tv sets. Progress.

Paint removal: a) acetone – smudgy, labourious b) spray over it with gray paint – easy. In case b it will still look a bit shit as it will not match with rock exactly but it should stop it….fight fire with fire, vandalise graffitti…. Scribbles swwm to multiply when not removed, as other dipshits get infected with the idea.

Could give it a try. Though spraying gray paint I’d be a bit scared of being mistaken for a graffito.

I have quite a bit of grey primer at the moment so if it can wait til the weekend I will go over the latest ‘art’ if no one has any objections?

I will ring the Hill’s Discovery Centre and discuss it with them, and post immediately what ever answer I get.

Hopefully that will be by mid-afternoon Thursday 16 October.

Yes I called the Hills Centre already, they gave me another number to call 92959100, the DEC district office. There I was told that the responsible person “Doug” will call me back. He never did. In my dealings with DEC, this is standard ops procedure so no surps. I shall try Doug again.

Good on ya…blast away with gray paint. It may be a good idea to print out this discussion string and take it with you. If anyone hassles you, at least you have something to wave in front of them to show you are not a bogan….

I shall eat my words (of yesterday) about Doug the Darling Ranges Ranger. He just called me now and we had a long discussion. Here is the gist:

The locks at Mt and Statham Quarries WERE welded to chain but were cut with bolt cutters. Please keep the gate locked behind you, the StQ gate lock is very hard to cut when the gate is locked. The locks will be replaced this week and numerical code changed.

Dough will paint a sign on gates “Keep gate locked at all times”. gate numbers are easy to get from Hills Forrest centre 9295 2244 9am-4pm weekdays.

The current graffitti at MtQ will be removed in the next few days by DEC maintenance or contractor.

The rangers are very busy, there are just 2 to cover the whole Darling Ra. They would appreciate our help. If you see anyone doing damage or being antisocial, take note of vehicle number and if at all possible take a photograph and post both to DEC on ‘[email protected]’. Do not include the numbers, I just put them in address to confuse the spam bots. Also report graffitti. Or call 9295 9100, the Dar Ra district office. Please do not confront anyone.

It is like a lot of things in life, we can sit back and take shit or get up and do something about it…

Um I was wondering is CAWA actively suppressing the freedom of press when someone writes a reply to a message ? There was some moron posting messages on this site and i repled with a message today and it has been deleted ?

Seems to be CAWA police are active at the moment 🙂

Hi Shane, I deleted the other message because it had nothing of interest and was just trying to antagonise people. I also deleted your response because it wouldn’t make sense without the other one.

There have been a few messages left over the last year by people that are just trying to wind us up. I find deleting them quickly makes them bored, they go away.

Tried yesterday with acetone. You’re right, it smuges. Might try with turps, it won’t evaporate as quickly as acetone, so might be easier to wipe off. Grey primer would work well. The lock’s back.

Now I was out climbing at Stathams today (bloody hot) with a few friends and also a large abseil group. Now why is it that DEC are telling us to lock the gate and do the right thing when the groups which seem to have priority in these places can leave the gate unlocked? Being a pro outfit shouldn’t they have a greater incentive to keep out the undesireables? or perhaps if DEC bans all access it will only be organised groups allowed in?

We were at Statham’s Sunday 19th. Arrived just as the SES were going out the gate. After finding out if we had the gate code, fine by me, we did, they locked it behind us, which they explained is what DEC had requested they do. If commercial operators are not locking it when they go, they are not fullfilling DEC requests.

On another not, we had problems with the lock. After several phone calls, and I owe several beers, discovered it is sometimes necessary to squeeze the lock to disengage it.

If I’m here on the weekend, I’ll take my trailer out and pick up rubbish. The TV set is annoying me.

                                Cheers,

                                Toc.

Oh my god, there’s GRAFFITI in the QUARRY! Quick, the timeless beauty of these priceless locations must be preserved! Man the acetone pumps! Call DEC! Bogans must pay!

Maybe I was unkind to Bogans…..I saw a sign on a bus today, there seems to be a new name for scribblers: GRAFFIDIOTS.

Good idea Toc, I will try and do same, maybe this will motivate others.

I don’t feel nearly so bad about mixing quarries and golf now…
