Hi i have been crunching numbers looking at opening up a bouldering gym south of the river and wondering if anyone else thinks that this idea would be sucessfull. I am not expecting to make huge money just as long as i dont loose money. I believe that we really need a climbing gym south of the river, though i cant afford to open a climbing gym a bouldering gym would be a better option.
any comments would be most appreciatedI think your way over estimating the amount of boulderers in perth. Sure it would be great but many climbing gyms only survive because of the general public coming. And they dont come to boulder. Gyms make but a sliver of their money off regulars, most of which who buy memberships and use them enough to make it about a dollar a visit.
thanks for the reply. i guess bouldering to the general public isnt as attractive as climbing. oh well back to the drawing board. a climbing gym would just be too much money to start up im guessing. i just wish there was a climbing gym south of the river around the fremantle area.

you think anything like this would work around perth?Hey cruxed I think your idea is a good one, Where would we be if nobody ever took a chance? as far as making said bouldering gym profitable I think you probably need some sideline, possibly at the same location to pay the rent so to speak, it could be climbing related or not. Look how about a bouldering gym and a laundry mat it sounds a bit odd but a laundromat I think is pretty low maintenance just say’n not taking the piss. I guess I’m say’n think long term.
yeah good point. that would be a damn cool laundromat…climb while you clean your clothes
i really like the idea of the slo-op climbing gym. gonna do some more research and see if i can come up with some other ideas that can incorporate the gym to make some extra cash on the side. im really not too fussed about making money aslong as the gym pays for itself.
