I just thought I would let everyone know about what happened Sat at Mountain Quarry.

I was climbing there with a couple of mates who parked their car outside the gate which subsequently got broken into. A rock was thrown through the drivers window and a mobile phone was stolen off the seat as well as two bags of old clothes (???) from the boot. Stereo was left intact, probably because the alarm was going off and it would have taken too long to remove.

As for the gate, there were commercial operators running an adventure course there and someone must have left the gate open, because when I got there it was unlocked. When I went to close it when I left the metal bar that the padlock clips onto was missing, so it is currently impossible to lock.

That really sucks. Commiserations for the theft and damage David. I have reported your experience and the unlockable gate to the Perth Hills Centre (the place you ring to get the gate codes 9295 2244). Hopefully the ranger can sort that out asap.

I was running the program on the Saturday and left the gate open because I believe all climbers should have access to the quarry for parking their cars. It also allows clients to drive their cars in and keep them safe. I am sorry that you learnt the hard way but do not leave anything in cars parked in these areas, especially on the seats.

I told the climbers present the gate code to enable them to re-lock the gate (and not potentially get locked in) before I left. The metal bar was definately not there in the morning and maybe I undid the padlock for no reason!! Too early for me obviously. Either way I will let the people responsible for the gate know about the bar.

Thanks David for relaying the story and Ang for reporting the commiserations.

Unfortunately the mobile was left unintentionally (fallen out of the pocket), I had actually cleaned out the car on Friday night as I had heard about other break ins. Next time I’ll move the car into the Quarry area and ensure nothing is left on the seat.

                Cheers again guys.
