Porongurup National Park status
Due to an intensive effort by DEC staff, two more popular recreation
sites are open in time for the July school holidays.
In addition to Porongurup Scenic Drive and Tree in the Rock picnic
area, Castle Rock day use area and Castle Rock walk trail are
now OPEN to visitors.
Safety
In all situations, safety of visitors, Park neighbours, Department of
Environment and Conservation staff, volunteers and contractors is
the primary concern.
Conditions remain extremely dangerous in other areas of the
Park. All bush areas, firebreaks and other walk trails remain
CLOSED to the public due to extremely unsafe conditions caused
by the wildfire.
It is important to be aware that in any forest setting there is some risk
of falling trees or tree branches. As a result of the wildfire, this risk is
greatly increased and can occur without warning.
Tree safety surveys and work to reduce identifiable hazards will
continue in other areas of the Park with the goal of reopening
additional walk trails and recreation sites as soon as possible.
