CAWA membership

With the current “excitement” in regards to regulations that may be imposed by CALM I thought it timely to put my money where it counts and join up. I know that CAWA is a not for profit organisation and like most voluntary groups the committee is made up of folks that have real work to do, but how about make it a bit easier for us to join up. There are a few climbers I climb with that are keen but are technologically lazy. Cheque / Money order what are they?? Give us credit card / direct deposit. A promise of 3 new members with active campaigning to our buddies awaits for a system that is a little easy for us new age rock bunnies…

You are right that it is not as easy as it should be to join – I had this problem the first time I joined CAWA. Cheques and cash are quaint but incredibly inconvenient. Credit card is out of the question for the admin and numbers involved. Bank transfer is easy but we need to know who did it AND we need your signature and details on hardcopy. Suggest mailing form in and mentioning a reference ie your surname, date of transfer and bank. Ensure your surname is on the bank transfer reference.

True, electronic would be easier but those systems cost money to run.

You pretty much have to go to the post office to get a stamp anyway. Is it that hard to get a money order while you’re there?

It amazes me how a physically active group like rock climbers can find it so hard to get a membership.

This fiasco with CALM is THE perfect example of why it’s so important to support CAWA.

If you want your voice to be heard, if you want better access to the crags, if you want climbing competitions to keep happening then get off your backside, put your money where your mouth is and get a CAWA membership!
