I just wanted to say THANK YOU to all the people who contributed to the CAWA State Sport Climbing Championship last weekend.

Especially thanks to Dinah Pantic, Toc Foale and Rowena Cole from CAWA, also sponsors Mt Designs, Rockface, Paddy Pallin, Adventure Out, Mainpeak and Black Diamond, and the route setters/belayers who did a fantastic job (Gerard Chipper, David Brereton and Co.)

I was not involved in any of the organising, as a competitor I just got to see the end product. It was great. This was my first sport climbing comp and I have really turned from a “bah-humbug” sort of atitude to really keen supporter.

The vibes were great and I was surprised at how really positive everyone was and how we all supported each other. I know this sounds like an ad, but you probably know me enough to know that if I though it was crap, I would tell you. There was no real pressure and I felt like I was just challenging myself, which is what I do anyway, every time I climb. If you did not come, I think you should. One should try everything once – you never know, it may be better than you think !

A good job for CAWA, a great fun day for the climbing community. Thanks again.

    Ross,

Many thanks for your supportive comments.

It was hard work but the we got there on the day. Some things need improving however considering the comp format was all new it was very successful, and fun as well.

The best part was the way the climbing community rallied around to help make it work. The prize sponsorship was tremendous, as was the help and generosity of the Rockface gym. Then there was the cheerful expertise of the colunteers helping on the day with belaying, judging, and registration.

Word got around that we needed climbers and the climbing community responded with 50 people turning up to participate.

To see the outdoor and climbing community gather together to help make it all work was kinda special.
