    Heya,

My wife and I are going to Broome in the near future and were thinking of taking our gear in case we decide to pry ourselves away from poolside and cocktails.

So, just wondering if there is any bouldering or toproping close to the town? Do any of the climbing guides cover Broome?

    Cheers

Hi Ben, I think you’ll find that Broome is pretty flat. May be some bouldering about, you’d have to ask around when you’re up there. The Kimberleys get a small chapter in Shane Richardson’s Northern Rock Guide book. Basically it looks like a lot of travelling to reach the areas mentioned, but that’s the Kimberleys for you. The other problem with climbing up North is that alot of the gorges are sacred sites for the local Aboriginals and climbing is banned, with penalties if you’re caught. I’d suggest getting in contact with a crowd in Kununurra who have a business taking people out abseiling/climbing. They may be able to give you more advice. Most outdoor shops will have Northern Rock and that at least is a start for you.
