Hey does anyone out there know of an insurer who will not go running he hills when they find out you are a climber? I have been trying to get some income protection insurance happening but being the fact this sport is regarded as High Risk no one will cover me unless I sign an exclusion.

      Anyone got any ideas?

      ALWAYS TELL THE TRUTH

It all boils down to the notion that for example you have cover…. you tell them you don’t climb…. you have a fall climbing and break a leg….. you tell them you fell over at home or somewhere else and no one will ever know. now this is just a story however, wink wink nudge nudge say no more

I actually have no problem with that as they are all leaches anyhow, but if the injury is more than something minor (broken limb or so) or if I had to be air lifted etc… my family would not be covered. I take responsibility for my own so the American style of litigation and blame everyone and thing except myself to solve problems is not my answer either. I was hoping someone knew of an insurance company that was a little more open minded. If not then I guess I had just better not fall…

I don’t think you will find any sort of cover anywhere in Australia.

Around 30-40 years ago, we almost had a no-fault insurance scheme which would have covered everybody in Australia in much the same way as Medicare. New Zealand has such a system. You don’t get a lot, but you get enough. Unfortunately certain groups, who an outside observer may have thought had a vested interest in a litigeous insurance non-system as we presently enjoy, lobbied against it. I’m sure they did so with Australia’s best interests at heart. Yeah, right.

The imposition of financial hardship on sporting groups trying to pay insurance bills to cover the cost of the present insanity has of course nothing, to do with our present obesity epidemic. Vote for any politician willing to tackle this one.

            Cheers,

            Toc.
