CAWA received a grant from HealthWays for first aid and safety. So far, two new first aid kits have been purchased.

We are now organising a First Aid Workshop which will be specifically tailored for climbers and will be run by Sports Medicine Australia. It will probably be on a Sunday morning from 9 am until 12 noon. (So then you can go climbing afterwards!)

There will be a small fee for CAWA members – probably about $10 – to cover the venue hire and morning tea (biscuits, tea, coffee etc).

Non-members are also welcome, but will need to pay the full fee – about $50 per person.

There are places for up to 35 participants and CAWA members get first dibs.

More information, such as the date and exact cost etc will be posted here later.

If you are interested in attending and have any preferences for the date, please leave a message here or email CAWA at [email protected]

Count me in. A Sunday morning is good for me, anytime while the weather is wet and cold.

            Hi Shane,

should be no problem for Dylon. I assume you have family membership, so we can put you down as a ‘family’ for maybe $15?

yes we do have a family membership mate. I thought it might be a good idea if at least he knows some basics, then if anything ever happened he might be able to do something.

              thanks.

                Hi Folks,

the proposed date is Sunday 20th or 27th of July. Or maybe Wednesday 24th?

                Any preferences?

The other thing – does anyone want the workshop to cover any specific stuff – head injuries, sprains, broken bits, snake bite, nutrition, warm-ups, CPR, hydration, hang-over remedies?

all of the above Philip. Oh Except the hang overs, believe a very sore head in the morning is good punishment for drinking too much

                    Great work Phillip!

I think we should gear it to cover the injuries and mishaps we are most likely to encounter like broken ankle/lower and upper leg bones, suspected spinals and perhaps snake bites.

A First Aid Workshop which will be specifically tailored for climbers is being organised and will be run by Sports Medicine Australia.

The proposed date for this is 27th July 2008, from 9:30 am till about noon.

There will be a $10 fee for CAWA members – to cover the venue costs and morning tea (biscuits, tea, coffee etc).

Non-members are also welcome, but will need to pay the full fee – $50 per person.

There are places for up to 35 participants and CAWA members get first dibs. BOOKINGS ARE ESSENTIAL!!! Either email CAWA or leave a message on the forum under the appropriate thread saying you are coming. Bring the money to the next Gym Crash or post it to CAWA or bring it on the day. If you say you are coming and don’t show, you’ll need to provide a note from your mum or cough up the cash anyway.
