Is there any info about climbs in the Fitzgerald River National Park? Is this an area that has been climbed much or is it too far from Perth for most people to bother?

In the last few years I’ve made a few trips to the area and have trekked all over the park but never done any climbing there.

There are plenty of good crags in the park and we have bouldered at some spots but I’ve never seen any bolts.

I’m planning a week-long trip just after Christmas and am interested in any advice people have on climbing in the area.

Naturally other climbers are welcome to join us.

There are a few recorded climbs at West Mt Barren and Edwards Point circa 1990’s also some around the cliff at sea level below East Mt Barren. If you search back in the “climbing talk ” there are some similar questions from a bloke who lives in Hopetoun. He may know more about it now.

          Gday Ash

I am in Hopetoun and it would be great to get a climb in. Hopefully the wind dies down and the flies go away. I am keen for anything in the park. You say you have walked in the park, I went along the coast last year to Point Ann and spend a bit of time around East Mt Barren. I haven’t climbed the sea cliffs yet but there looks to be some half decent rock there. Drop me a line here and we can maybe organise a trip.

            Great,

I’m a little scared to put my real details on the internet but send me an email at

            [email protected]

and I’ll get in touch with you. As I said before, any other climber is welcome to contact me about the trip. We also plan to do a bit of walking/sandboarding/water skiing/swimming etc when our fingers get too tired from climbing.

            The more the merrier.
