      Hey there climbers.

My climbing partner and myself have been climbing indoors For a few months now. Weve done a leading course and lead around a 20-21 indoors. Weve done enough bouldering outdoors to be confident enough to take on some outdoor leads.

Were looking for some easy going leads around the perth area so we can work on placing bolt plates and draws and cleaning routes and get some outdoor confidence up.

Ive got the Perth climbing guide book but without getting out there and scoping i really dont know where to start. So whats some decent low grade routes i should be on the look out for?

      Thanks alot.

Have a look at the older post which answers your question.

And another comment – don’t limit yourself to sports or bolted only routes – there are many fantastic trad and mixed trad/bolted climbs as well.

I ahould have stated im only looking for fully bolted routes, since were still new to climbing we would like to get some outdoor stuff down before we even think of doing trad (Also im nice and broke after paying for a holiday so i dont feel like splurging on a trad rack right at this moment). So that post really isnt much help.

Im not looking for great and amazing climbs to experience im just looking for some nice easy going stuff to get a feel for it on before we start seeing how far we can go grade wise.

Get yourself out to one of the Quarry’s plenty of low to mid grade climbs at mountain quarry , and some good climbs at Stathams

get a copy of the perth climbing guide from CAWA or one of the outdoor stores and have some fun

                  Ummm… isn’t trad outdoors climbing?

At MQ, along the Black Wall where Penthouse is, there are about 7 or 8 grade 14 – 17 fully bolted routes. Also at MQ is Ride of the Valkyries (18), Frustration and Contempt (16), Equilibrium (18), Ace (18). A bit harder, try Turbodiesel Excavator (19), Mortal Wombat (20), Sylvia (21), Sex, Cigarettes and Chardonnay (19), and Urban Ethics (22). All very good climbs.

At Statham’s try Blah Blah Blah (16), Twenty easy steps (17), Mount Everest (16), the three ant climbs on the slab (15, 16, 14), Plummeting Penguins (16), Novice Penguins (13), Penguin Master (16), Morning Glory (17), and Kid Rock (17). Also Real Life Ambition (21), Czech Mate (22), The Oubliette (22), Left lateral Port-side Smidgen Winkler (21).

Boya Quarry (East Bay) has some very nice climbs, but most are 18, 19, 20, 21.

Shark Rock, Llama Rock, Wombat Rock and Darlington Boulders also have good fully bolted routes of various grades. The Lost World has quite a few easy (13 – 18) fully bolted climbs and is certainly worth a visit.

You’ll need bolt plates at most places.
