    Emil and Mark

The long weekend saw another route done on Mt Trio, we repeated the routes to check their grades and managed to get a card carrying CAWA bigshot (conrad) to do a couple of routes and take some photos. Hopefully he was impressed enough to talk the place up cause we reckon with long, overhung routes in a beautiful setting that people should be flocking to it.

      The new route was:

      Tightrope Walker 30m 21

Between Ringmaster and Circus, Circus on the upper tier. Rap down to RH DBB – up to bolt common to CC and BL, up to second bolt common to CC and TW then trend L. Possibly the steepest 21 in the state! FA Emil Sept 06

Our routes going from L-R on the cliff have been re-graded (and one renamed) as follows:

      Lower Tier

      One Trick Pony 23 30m **

      Sideshow Eddie 25 30m *

Fuelling the Dancing Bear 22 30m *** (formerly Fuelling the Beer Monster)

      Upper Tier

      Ringmaster 20 30m *

      Tightrope Walker 21 30m **

      Circus Circus 21 30m *

      Bearded Lady 22 30m ***

            Fantastic!

Top work lads, great too see people are still putting in the time, effort and money to open up these fantastic new areas!. Also a big shout out to the guys that have been putting in the hard yards at Mt Roe and Eagle Rock.

Can’t wait to check it out!

                George,

Checked out your work at Wallcliff on the weeked with Pascal and Emil. Great work rebolting the 24 (Name slips my mind). Awesome climb and you can see why it hasn’t had any traffic with those bolts… NASTY…

The best 24 in the Marg river region.. Get on it people, much better than Fun Love and Joy and the grade is about right, unlike others in the area… And as was said by Pascal ” Little bees, just at ze start.”

The Wallcliffe route is I’m too Sexy for my Python. I agree, a classic route.

                  Thanks for the rebolting.

if the appearance fo a minor celebrity such as nostromo doesn’t drag the punters in then i don’t know what would…..

maybe a shirts off photo shoot in crux mag…..

There are better reasons for shirting off… I hear it makes you climb stronger.

                        Another Trio route

                        Clownshoe 19 30m

Start as for Ringmaster on the LH DBB. Follow the left line of bolts up the face and through the two roofs. FA Emil Oct 06

                        Trio guide coming soon

All these 30m climbs. Are they sufficiently overhung as to be able to lower off on a fifty metre rope?

To lower off a 30 m route successfully with a 50m rope (assuming the ground is flat), means that the route would have to be 47 degrees overhung (from vertical) – thats seriously steep! So nope Charlie, you could not do that on any of the routes at Trio.

Besides, the upper tier routes are a 30m rap in (not reccommended with a 50m rope) and start 25 metres off the ground. The terrain means that on the upper tier you would be rapping in and climbing out – no yoyoing to be had there…. Sorry mate but time to retire the 50 and get with the times.
