Is CAWA aware of the new bolt hanger lower offs placed on the slab below the overlap on Speeding Chickens, a couple of carrots replaced for hangers on Sliders and bolt belay lower offs at the top Sliders.

        Hi Mike,

Is that ring bolts replacing carrots, and are the new lower offs hangers or hex heads?

        Toc.

          Hi Toc

Sorry I wasn’t very clear. On Sliders, 2 carrots have been replaced by bolts with hangers, in addition two bolts with hangers have been placed above the overlap presumably as a belay.

On Speeding Chickens 2 bolts with hangers have been placed below the overlap on the top of the slap presumably for a lower off.

i think it would be more accurate to say 2 bolts were ADDED to sliders. there are now more bolts on that climb than there used to be.

if you can climb the bottom crux bits past the old carrots then you certainly don’t need the retrobolt additions up high on very easy ground…. oh well.

What’s the problem with loweroffs on this climb? Popular climb, pretty central to other routes, saves going all the way to the top, bringing up second, etc etc.

It’s a bolted climb. Lower offs with binner / rings as opposed to 2 carrots for a beley seems like good practice.

However adding additional bolts to an established climb, tic tic. Shame on you. Replacing them – different story…

              Peace

the belay above speeding chickens is an addition too. there was never a carrot belay there.

as to whether the new belay is good or bad… who knows.

what type of bolts were added? glue in machine bolts, studs or something else?
