Just moved up from melb, wondering if any climbers about in Port Hedland, looking even just for a garage set up for a bit of training, or if anyone knows of any spots any style, also up for hiking, just drop us a line,

        Mate,

You wont believe it but I just resigned and left PH last Friday! I don’t know of anyone else who climbed in town, we ended up building a home bouldering wall (the price of timber at home hardware in south isn’t cheap though). Probably not what you wanted to hear.

There is nothing really within a 2 hour radius of PH to climb that I ever found.

        Cheers,

It was years ago that I was there, before I was interested in climbing.. But if you’re desperate, there might be a chance of some minor boulder-esque work when there’s a low tide behind the community park(on the coast, in-between the spoil bank and the Port water tower). If I recall there is rock face for about 200m, only about 2m tall, maybe higher in some spots, but it might take imagination & some sit starts I think.

Like I say though, take this with a grain of salt–its been almost 10 years since I was there.

if you get really desperate Karratha is just over 2 hours drive…… Sea side granite could keep you busy for a few weekends this time of year

Hey Ash you still in town ive been here for 6 years and still haven’t found anything worth climbing Wino and Knox goerges are supposed to be ok you can also go to eagle rock falls it has some nice trad routes on banded iron formation but there is alot of mining activity going on that way at the moment so ou may not be able to access it to easily, you could try carawine goerge out of marblr bar for som bouldering and deep water soloing then the nexrt s[port style routes are at exmouth in the cape range national park but whatch out for the bolts some are a little dodgey, there are some awesome bouldering caves around there though, if your still in town and are interested in making a trip of some of these places let me know cheers

                      G’day,

I’m looking to get into climbing, have ropes experience, although haven’t climbed to much outside of a gym.

I’ve just brought a full rack and ropes second hand (I’m happy with it’s condition), have a 4WD, camping gear etc. Willing to travel to meet up, I’m located in Hedland.

Give me a call on 0424645530 or at [email protected].

                      Jim

P.S. Ash- I think we met up when I was FIFO, you were staying at club H, we had a bit of a yak about climbing. I’m assuming most of your work is finishing up with the job you were on before, are you still in Hedland?
