      Hey guys,

I was on ‘inside out’ (main wall left at mountain quarry) and I found that U-bolts that are connected to the hangers at the top are very very rusted and so I didn’t use them.

I would be happy to get some replacement u-bolts (Stainless steel probably) and install them up there to make the belay point usable again. I suspect that there are probably other rusty u-bolts at the top of other climbs in mountain quarry that also need replacing.

Does anyone have any advice as to replacing them? Where is best to buy the u-bolts and any tips or tricks as to replacing them?

      Kind regards,
      Matt

Hey Matt, was like that last time I climbed it with my son a few years back … there was a chain run between the 2 bolts with excess chain @ each end having a rusty D-link attached, if you get my drift? Was pretty “leery” I must say! What did you do – we ran 2 long sewn slings girth-hitched through each end of the chain & over the edge to 2x back-to-back locking ‘biners, so we could top-rope others. When finished, it was a pain to thread the rope through the chain & rap off, & pull the rope down was hard – lotsa friction!

A good hard & exposed climb though – for my age/level! I’d help pay for a re-bolting if anyone is up for it (I don’t have the skills) – each time we lost bolt plates trying to get ’em on the damn carrots!

        cya,
