      Greetings fellow CAWA members:

This is just a quick email to invole jealousy – I am sitting in my hotel room in Santiago looking up at a 5000m high, snow covered mountain range; in the other direction is the ocean.

Hopefully I might get a chance over the next couple of days to walk up this Peak (El Plomo). It is supposed quite easy (?).

FYI: Chile seems like a great place to come for a mountaineering holiday; but learn some spanish before you come….

      Cheers

Hi Glenn, I was in Peru 8 years ago and had a similar experience regarding Spanish. Even the Customs guys did not speak English; so did almost noone else. Enjoy the place.

Go south! It gets even better. If you have the time and inclination check out the Lake District. There’s great hiking (active volcanos!), canyoning, kayaking. You can brush up on your German as well as your Spanish, in some of the towns it’s the first language.

If you go even further south you hit Patagonia where if you’re really keen you can try an epic up Cerro Torre!
