If you have been to Stathams Quarry lately, you will have observed a large (and unfortunately, growing) number of debris from the old-age tradition of “lets-throw-things-off-the-cliff-because-we-don’t-have-anything-better-to-do”.

Each time I have been climbing there, I have removed a box of rubbish. It didn’t take me long to do this.

Whilst CAWA will be speaking to the DEC to see what can be done, if everyone helps to remove a little bit of debris each time – it will go a long way to improving the safety and asethetics of the Quarry.

If you can help out – please use gloves, as there are many sharp items & broken glass.

Great stuff Allison – the only way these places will stay clean is if everyone does their little bit. Unfortunately it’s not only the quarry which gets littered. My buddy and i picked up various bits of rubbish from Wilyabrup yesterday. Where rubbish in the quarry is usually from vandals, the rubbish at Wily’s is most likely from climbers which is just disappointing really. I’ve walked away from every climbing visit with a small pile of rubbish which isn’t mine. The reality is, the a***holes who litter will probably just keep doing it, and nice people like you will forever be cleaning up after them…

But keep on fighting, it’s worth it 🙂
