Hello! We plan to visit western australia for a climbing trip in april/may. Could you recommend some good climbing areas whith bolted routes , grade 15-22? It would be great to get some tips from you insiders 🙂 Thanks, Beate and Thomas from switzerland

        g’day

i’m an aussie based in neuchâtel, ch. I grew up on the SW coast of west oz.

most of what you want to know is in the following link:

you’ll find pics of many of these places at simon carter’s website

west cape howe is not for the faint of heart. i grew up looking at the headland almost every day i surfed. its an awesome place, possibly some of the best ocean cliff climbing you’ll find. there was a recent fatality involving some swiss based climbers…tragic but perhaps a useful reminder.

you’ll find much of what you climb in west oz pretty bold and many a “sport” route demands rather peculiar equipment with some poor quality bolting. however, there’s a few sites that are pretty well protected sport wise. the bouldering can be fantastic for those with a joy for exploring, i strongly urge you to take crash pads with you.

enjoy the wilds, the sense of space will be the most impressive thing you’ll experience.
