Hi guys,
Im in SE asia at the moment and it looks like im passing through Thailand. Is it easy to find climbing partners in Krabi? and is there a decent climbing shop there, i didnt pack my gear? Cheers guys
DianeMemberHaven’t been there but a few of my friends have- the climbing shop is called King Climbers and apparently it’s pretty easy to meet climbing partners there. Have fun!
John KnightMemberJudging by the pictures I always see at the hangout and various mags, it probably isn’t too hard. Have fun ya wee devil! 🙂
KathMemberHi Andrew, you can go by boat from Krabi or Ao Nang to Rai Lay, and put up a notice on the message board near King Climbers shop (Near Ya Ya bungalows). I had no trouble finding someone to climb with this way. Alternately, just head to the crags and start chatting to people. You can also hire guides from the 4 (or more)climbing schools, who supply gear and take you to various spots. I watched them leading barefoot up grades 18 and 19 to set up topropes for their customers. King himself may be able to offer you more info. I emailed him at kingclimbers@iname.com. This address is an old one, as I was in thailand 4 years ago so may not be accurate.
Good luck, the climbing is fantastic, but beware of loose bolts on upper pitches.
AndrewMemberThanks guys should be there in a couple of days.
Just come back from Tioman island off the east coast. Found heaps of awesome climbing…just didnt bring any shoes. Theres heaps of granite bouldering and some pretty big peaks, 675m high! i found some bolted routes on my travels, someone has stuck holds on the harder routes, purists wouldnt be happy…
AndrewMemberThanks for the replys,
The climbing was awesome, such a good vibe over there. looks like im going back before the trip is through. definately a place you could get lost in.
