I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to do Vulture street and The climb last week -both are outstanding climbs for the grade. I was wondering if anyone knows the origin of the naming of Vulture street? Is it anything to do with the vulturous lizards that inhabit the area? I think a guy named Warren Lee was the first ascensionist.

Also on the subject of West Cape Howe, the famous Simon Carter shot of Boyd and Joel on Acid Drop actually looks more like Carousel! Is this correct?

Warren Lee and I were ex-Queenslanders living in Perth. I spotted the line but Warren talked me into having first go. I agreed provided he belay in the alcove at 2/3 height so I could lead the second pitch. We climbed it on sight as planned, with no abseil inspection. We called it ‘Vulture Street’ due to its recognizably Queensland name (e.g, the Vulture St end of the Gabba). Cheers to all! Joe.

its a bloody good route, had seen a picture of someone on it and made a beeline for it on my first trip there. Great climbing, decent gear, perfect rock 5 stars
