Wilyabrup Aus Day Long Weekend 2020 Trip Report

CAWA Held Our Annual Australia Day Long Weekend Trip At Wilyabrup.

This year we even whipped out the pads for some bouldering.

We had a great turnout of more than 30 people, most of which arrived Friday night.

To kick off the trip, Peter had left everything but climbing gear at home so his picnic rug from the car kept him warm for the first night until Sam came to the rescue on Saturday morning.

The chickens at Gracetown Caravan Park took a liking to Sharif’s tent which apparently looked like a nice place to lay their eggs. Despite great effort chasing them out with a stick, they managed to quickly lay an egg close by. They subsequently tried to return to Sharif’s tent the next morning but after getting chased out, decided that Paul’s tent was much cosier to lay their eggs.

On the climbing front, Woody casually flashed “Iceberg” (V7) and attributes it to eating big and upping his deadlift pant size.

After much contemplation and after we had packed up all the ropes, Jiri decided he wasn’t ready to solo “Dessert” (25) … We brought down a rope for him to casually send it before claiming it was easy and that it deserves a downgrade.

After Matt showed Sam how to set up a toprope anchor, Sam spent all Sunday night tying up camping chairs with “alpines”.

Ray thought that the large banana-shaped crack on “Banana Split” looked appealing so decided to venture deep within. Upon exiting the crack, Ray built a “cam nest” in the hope it would help calm down his out-of-control Elvis leg.
