Hello guys !
I’m in Albany for a month and heard that the climbing was awesome! Anyway, I’m a little bit disappointed, I havn’t found any information about climbing in Albany on internet and since there is no climbing gym around, it’s really hard to meet climbers. The weather is really bad at the moment, but is there some people who are climbing there or plan to come?

JordyGuestHey Romain,
there’s plenty of good rock to be climbed near you. looks like some of the best trad climbing in WA is around Albany!. did you check out the ‘climb’ section of the website, links to info on where to go, and what guidebooks you might need. https://www.climberswa.asn.au/climb/online-guide/south-coast/
i’d be checking out West cape howe and the Gap if i were down that way.
good luck,
RomainGuestThanks Jordy for the answer !
I’ve been to the Gap few weeks ago, I didn’t know that was a climbing spot ! The place is beautiful !
So ok, the big problem actually is that I’m travelling for a year in australia and have brought with me only my shoes and harness. That’s why I would like to find some local climber who got more gears 🙂
Anyway, I will check the link. Thanks again !
NumbatGuestHi Romain,
have a look at some of the photos at https://www.climberswa.asn.au/photos/
About half of these are at Albany – West Cape Howe, The Gap, Peak Head, Porongurup, Stirlings etc.
A couple of years ago I met this guy from Germany who wanted to climb at Albany. He’d been over at Arapiles for a month or so beforehand where in about 5 minutes you can find some dirtbagger to climb with. He told me he was going to go to West Cape Howe and would find someone to climb with. I told him that if he waited a few months there he might see another climber. A few of us were going to Kalbarri so I invited him along. He didn’t believe me about WCH and reckoned there’d be dozens of people at WCH and went there anyway. He spent a week there and saw no one apart from a few bogan fisherpeople and so then drove straight through to Kalbarri to catch up with us there.
If you’re still around after Christmas, CAWA usually runs a week-long trip to Albany. Probably just about more climbing is done in that week in Albany than the rest of the year put together.
Have fun!

RomainGuestThanks Numbat !
The photos are beautiful! West Cape Howe looks awesome !
I will forget the idea to climbing in Albany. I will do some bouldering. I have found hips of boulders in the Mt Melville 🙂
Won’t be there after Christmas, but I will join the CAWA anyway for the trip to Willyabrup in the beginning of December.
Thanks again,
Romain
nayaGuestHello ,
I’m with a friend travelling ariud australia with our climbing material and we want to know : Is there some bolted cliff in tge Albaby region ?
NumbatGuestPlenty of bolted multi-pitch stuff at Gibraltar Rock and Marmabup Rock in the Porongurups.
https://www.climberswa.asn.au/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/porongurups-rock-climbing-guide.pdf
Also single and double pitches at Mt Trio in the Stirlings. There’s also the boulder 300 m up the track that heads south from the carpark – climbs are grade 17 – 21, about 15 metres. And the carpark boulder, 20 m west of the carpark, 10 m top-rope.

Peak Head – but this may be closed due to a fire…

Some bolted stuff at West Cape Howe.

A bit further away is Mt Franklin.

Have a look at

and

You’ll need bolt plates for all these places.
AnnaimillGuestI am in fact delighted to glance at this blog posts which includes lots of helpful information, thanks for providing such information.
