We’re holding a “Summer Break” climbing trip to Willyabrup, Friday 30th Nov to Sun 2 Dec 2012.
We’ll be staying at the Gracetown Caravan Park. CAWA has reserved a group block of 18 tent sites (power available) at a cost of $14 per person per night. Most of you know about the campsite and its proximity to Willyabrup and other climbing areas.
If you are interested in coming, please let us know asap by email at cawa@climberswa.asn.au. Gracetown Caravan Park is on the corner of Caves Road and Cowaramup Road that leads to Gracetown.
Some of us will travel down on Friday 30th Nov afternoon/evening, but please ensure you arrive no later than 9pm, as requested by the campsite management. That gives us the ability to get after an early start on the rock on Saturday morning.

Please note that CAWA trips are a benefit for members. Non-members who are interested in coming can join online. All participants need to be ‘independent participants’. This means you are responsible for your own safety. Due to legal and liability issues, CAWA does not provide training. If you are an inexperienced climber, then have a chat to some of the more experienced people you know and see if they are planning to attend.

Hey Guys,
A Heads up for those going on the Willyabrup trip this weekend. On Sunday the 25th I came face to face with a tiger snake that was curled up in the last horizontal crack on dolphin smiles. *(the one a little bigger than a fist jam). Luckily I was not struck and managed to down climb and then traverse 5 metres to the left.
My thoughts about the incident:
*No phone reception available on the cliffs so a sat phone or a runner to make a call on higher ground would be required.
*In some cases people have lost vision within a minute of being bitten by tiger snakes (something to think about)
* A good first aid kit with the equipment to carry/stretcher someone is needed.
*Margaret river and Busselton ER no longer carry anti venom so your closest hospital would be in Perth.
