Hi Everyone
The time of year when all of the committee positions become vacant is fast approaching. The next AGM will be held in February 2011 and volunteers are going to be required to fill all of the positions. Some of us who have renominated a few times will not be running for positions, so I would encourage anyone who cares about the future of climbing in WA, including access issues, to consider giving up some of their time to help run the association that has worked so hard to look after climbers’ interests over the years. Don’t have much time, I hear you say? Well, it may come as a surprise that most if not all of the committee members over the years have also had work and family responsibilities.
Over the last few years I have, time and again, seen various comments criticising the committee on the forum. I have refrained from responding as it is my job to set an example and most of the comments are from people who either have no idea what we do or have no idea what is involved in actually running an association. However, I do find it frustrating, particularly as almost without fail, it is those who have never actually come and asked questions before publicly criticising or have never been willing to volunteer for a committee position, that are so negative and judgemental. If you think you have something to contribute or that you can do it better, then here is your chance. Yes, it requires that you give some of your time to help run the association. However, many of us that have served on the committee over the years have regularly given up non-existent spare or climbing time to keep the association running.
Over the last 2 years your committee has worked hard to deliver on the promised goals and I am pleased to say that by the time we hang up our hats next year, we will have achieved these and more.
So, please help to continue the good work and volunteer some of your time. It’s a great way to acquire new skills, looks great on your CV and you will definitely make some new friends.
