StuartGuest
Are there adventure sport insurers (Ex Perth) that climbers here would recomend for cover in Europe?
I know some of you do the odd trip abroad to climb/trek.
I used to be a BMC member and also used Snowcard but now being non resident in the UK these options are unavailable.
Any information appreciated.
Stuart
RossMemberI suggest that you check out (1) Austrian Alpine Club (Sektion Britannica) and (2) Insure4less (underwritten by Lloyds). AAC gives hut discouts, chopper rescue cover and 10mil euro hospital, from memory.
StuartMemberThanks Ross.
RossMemberOops, thats 10,000 euro hospital, not 10mil. That may not be enough for major accidents.
DenaMemberThe AAC insurance is intended primarily to cover rescue but I have taken it out again this year for the other benefits as well. Rescue is free in some countries but not others and depending on which but of the mountain you fall down on, it could be the one that charges lots.
Insure4less has good cover (pretty much the only one we can easily access here) and is reasonably priced considering what they cover. They are also still developing their cover and are open to feedback about climbers’ needs. They increased the rescue component last year when I told them that the cover they offered wouldn’t even come close to being adequate. However, you do need to take out their ‘normal’ premium cover and then apply for the climbing cover, which is available at two levels, depending on what you are doing, altitudes etc. There is good medical expenses cover and other things you might look for in travel insurance.
StuartMemberCheers Dena.
I have been looking at the Insure for less Web site and deciding which way to go. I’m not planning any epic alpine just a bit of sport this time in France, Spain and Italy with a bit of Via feratta.
