Fellow Members of CAWA,
Firstly let me introduce myself as a new member of the CAWA committee and the CAWA trip coordinator.
I am a new addition to Western Australia, having recently moved across from the UK. As such, I am keen to climb and explore my local region as often as I can.
Peak Charles Trip (2-5th April 2010)
We are in the process of arranging the Easter Trip to Peak Charles, about 800 km east of Perth and about 150 km north of Esperance. If you’re interested in coming, please drop me an email so I can sort numbers and try and rationalise transport.
The campsite is very basic – a bit of flat ground and a drop toilet only. We therefore need to ensure that we take all the necessary supplies with us! I’ll update people when I have some more details closer to the trip on campsite locations and directions.
This trip is not idea for beginners to climbing as most routes are multi-pitch, but for those with a bit of experience it will give you some excellent climbing and remind you what climbing is all about and why many of us train at the gym. It is my aspiration over the coming months to arrange more trips to give us all more outdoor experience.
If you’re interested in coming please drop me an email, with some brief details on your abilities, your level of kit, and planned departure dates and if you need help with transport or can give someone a lift.
Below are two initial links on Peak Charles, more to follow.

RossMemberThere now is a new miniguide to Peak Charles, see under Climb/Miniguides. It has 4 new long climbs, a couple of new photos and “Conquistadors” is now plotted on Karakoram Wall, courtesy of Dave.
Ashley ListMemberGetting there;
Direct
Assuming the weather has been good and there’s been no rain, both 4×4 and road cars can do the direct route over the 200km of dirt roads. You are advised to travel at an appropriate speed if you’re in a road car as there could be hazards along the way. For directions copy and paste all of the link below into your web browser;
//maps.google.com/maps?saddr=-32.1499784413,116.02123095+(%22Albany+Hwy+cnr+SW+Hwy%22)&daddr=-32.8792875445,121.172993575+(%22Peak+Charles%22)&ie=utf-8&v=2.2&cv=5.1.3533.1731&hl=en
Non Direct
If you’re not up for 200km dirt roads you can take the longer route via Norseman.
Camping
The camp ground is obvious to spot along the Peak Charles road. The facilities are very basic with only a toilet provided and No water!
You will need to be fully self sufficient for you trip, in Kit, food, Beer and above all WATER.
I hope you enjoy
