There is a CAWA trip planned for the long weekend in 4 weeks (Sat29Sep-Mon1Oct). If the weather cooperates it will be to Mt Frankland (near Walpole), if it looks crap then Kalbarri will be the saner option, to be declared on Thursday prior. Either way book your diaries and keep watching this space. Logistics tba closer to date.

I reckon I will travel to Walpole for the long week-end. Might even take the guitar down also.

Let me know the details and where do people stay ?

    MT FRANKLAND LOGISTICS:

Information on the Fernhook Falls camp site can be downloaded from this link, alt email me on ross.weiter@worleyparsons.com and I will email PDF of brochure

    http://www.naturebase.net/component/option,com_docman/task,doc_download/gid,724/

If you need transport, please email me or phone me at work on 63116490 (leave message) or mob 0422927962.

For info on climbing, see guidebook. If you do not have it, MF is a large granite dome with 1-3pitch climbs. You will need 10 hangers, full trad rack (but over 50% of the climbs are fully bolted) and dual ropes to get off (or walk off).

Other than than bring a helmet, rain jacket, headlamp, and a light backpack to carry up with you.

    Kalbarri option logistics tba soon.

    Hi guys,

I’d love to come along to Mount F. Does anyone have a spare seat in their cars?

    Hi all,

Sorry, been asleep. I’m going, got the three days off too. Tamantha will probably make it, leaving 3 places in my car. 0438 915 902. So Remi, I have got space for you.

If the forecast for the weekend is bad, and Mt Frankland wet can be very wet, (part of the reason the trees grow so big), we’ll probably go the other way and end up at Kalbarri. This decision will be made the week before.

    Cheers,

    Toc.

If the weather is fine for the week-end I will be traveling down with my son, and at the moment have a seat available in my van. I will probably be bringing the guitar so do any of the people going have any requests.

    Quickest way to Mt Frankland?

I’d just take the South Western Highway from Perth down through Bunbury and follow it through Donnybrook, Bridgetown, Manjimup etc etc.

It’s the most direct route and you can really floor the car. Then again, every man and his dog will be heading down south this on the weekend so the roads may be chockers. The other way (not as direct but maybe less traffic) would be to head into Busselton via Busselton Highway and then take Vasse Highway through Nannup and towards Pemberton were it links up with South Western Highway about 50 or so km’s north of Mt Frankland.

    Easy 😉

Either way, you’re looking at around about 4-5 hours at the very most. About the same ammount of time it takes to get to Kalbarri on a good day.

    Car ofcourse 😉

Why, how long does it take everyone else to get there?

I guess maybe 5-6 is more appropriate.

It’s never taken me more than 6.

Thursday Morning shower or two. Min 10 Max 20

Friday Fine. Min 8 Max 23

Saturday Fine. Min 8 Max 24

Sunday Fine. Min 10 Max 24

Monday Fine. Min 10 Max 21

Tuesday Fine. Min 9 Max 22

That’s the weather forecast for Perth, Albany’s basically the same. So the MF trip is on. If anyone needs a lift, I will be leaving Perth around noon Friday, call me on 0422 927962. At the site I will be in white Xtrail and large blue geo dome tent. CU there!

…almost forgot, I wouldn’t base the weather forcast off the Perth forcast. Rain is expected in Albany and all the lower south west on Sunday.
