    Hi

I’m a student form Norway, and are staying in Bunbury for 2 weeks and in Geraldton for 4 – 5 weeks. I’m a really dedicated climber and want to climb while i’m down under. Is there any climbing near any of those places?

    Any tips is very welcome!

    Chrees, Hilmo

    Hi mate

I’m in Bunbury. I just checked and the local cliffs at Wellington Dam are still shut because of a construction project, so the sea-cliffs at Willyabrup (help me out with the spelling here someone) are the best bet.

E-mail me at reefdiving@eftel.com.au and let’s go climbing one day. I have a car, we should work out what other gear you need. Do you have a helmet and harness?

    Welcome to WA

    Hi Hilmo.

Why on earth would you travel around the world to come to Bunbury?

Anyway, if you want to go to Willyabrup tomorrow (Sunday 03 Sept.) give me a call or txt on 0415 323 913.

I’m going to bunbury as an exhange program, so i’ll stay at the hospital. As the same for Geraldton.

I’ll be in Australia, Geraldton about the 13th of october, and I’ll stay there for 2 weeks. And I’m a really dedicatet climber.

About gear; I was planing to bring almost all of my gear, including my trad rack. I think to remember have read that anyone climbing near Perth should bring their trad rack.

I’m within walking distance of the hospital. Probably best to e-mail me when you get your roster and we’ll work out when you’re free.

    Hi Hilmo,

no problems. Might catch up with you when you get here.

As for climbing near Bunbury and Geraldton, about 80 km south of Bunbury is Wilyabrup. Here’s a photo:

Wilys is granite, up to about 30 metres and mostly trad with some bolts.

Another 20 km further away is Bob’s Hollow and Wallcliffe. These are 10 – 20 m, limestone and calcite and mainly bolted.

About 150 km north of Geraldton is Kalbarri. Lower grades (less than Australian grade 20) are mostly trad and higher grades are mostly bolted.

Something you will need are 6 or so ‘Bolt-plates’. These are a strange Australian invention for use on the old-style Australian style bolts. You can get 45 and 90 degree ones – get a few of each. There is one shop that sells climbing gear in Bunbury and about 5 or so in Perth – best to try and get some in Perth in case you end up in Bunbury and they have run out.

Here is what they look like….

    Hi Phillip!

Thanks for the information. We’ll have to hook up and climb when I get there. I try to buy the bolt plates in perth, how many of each? I’ll also have to get a rope, looks like some of the shops in Perth sell Beal’s Joker rope.
